A nomadic village of the Kundroft Tatar tribe in the Nogai steppe - Original copper engraving from the 18th century, from the work Johann Gottlieb Georgi – Beschreibung aller Nationen des Russischen Reichs, ihrer Lebensart, Religion, Gebräuche, Wohnungen, Kleidungen und übrigen Merkwürdigkeiten (Description of All the Nations of the Russian Empire, Their Way of Life, Religion, Customs, Dwellings, Clothing, and Other Peculiarities, published 1776–1780). The engraving depicts a nomadic camp of the Nogai Tatars, specifically referred to as the Kundroftschische Tataren – a branch of the Nogai tribes inhabiting the vast steppe regions north of the Caspian and Black Seas. The composition offers a panoramic view of an open steppe landscape dotted with yurts, herds of horses and oxen, as well as groups of travelers and families engaged in everyday activities.
